Watching Snow from an Upstairs Window
Dear Friends,
I'm back home in Maryland now in the first days of Spring watching a mild blizzard of snow out my window. I returned from India on February 20th, hoping I'd missed winter. Actually, it's beautiful though, and braver hearts than mine, like my sister, Susan and her husband George, would be out in it cross country skiing. So it is, each of us living our own parallel realities.
Here's a poem I wrote some time ago called, Watching Snow from an Upstairs Window:
Grace
Could come sideways
Flying, drifting up
Or falling down...
In microscopic symmetry
Each way unique
Or flaky clumps
Pouring down
On the brown parched heart.
Or, as a web of lace
Circling round me
Holding me from falling
Cradling me, in branches of tall trees.
White etched trees reach upward
Catching grace
In infinite outstretched fingers
Roots go deep
To drink the mystery
To taste the eternal.
I am held in sanga
Reaching back generations
Their arms upraised, hearts uplifted
Reaching up, pouring down,
Flying all around.
Please mark your calendars for special events coming up soon:
Our next monthly Urban Devi ladies' sanga at Bhakti Center will be Sunday, April 22, 2-4 PM. We'll be continuing with Five Years, Eleven Months, and a Lifetime of Unexpected Love, by Visakha Dasi. In April, we'll be looking at Chapter 6, Atlas's Burden.
If you don't yet have a copy, it's available on Amazon. If you're loving the book, and you feel so inclined, Visakha would be deeply grateful if any of you might like to write a review and put it up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Amazon.
In May, Bhakti Center (bhakticenter.org) will once again be hosting an all day retreat with HH Radhanath Swami on Sunday, May 13th. Space will be limited to ticketed attendees only. Watch Bhakti Center website for this intimate event.
The Heart of Yoga retreat (heartofyogagitawisdom.org) on Long Island will be back this year on Friday, June 1st through Sunday, June 3rd for the first time at the EverVeda Retreat Center in Oyster Bay. Radhanath Swami, Joshua Greene (Yogesvara das), Raghunath, and myself will be the presenters. Registration is full, but they're accepting names on the waitlist.
Please check Bhakti Center website for the yoga retreat in the rainforest of Costa Rica, overlooking the ocean at the Samasati Retreat Center with Syama, Dhyana, and myself June 15-20. Please come! And please mention that you heard about it from Rukmini.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
All the best,
