5 Lessons from the Dying

An Urban Devi Event with Jai Gopali Devi Dasi

Topic: Five Lessons from the Dying

Description: Death is the one inevitable truth we all face, yet it remains a topic many avoid. In this deeply personal talk, Jai Gopali shares the profound lessons learned from the passing of her own mother and her experiences as a junior doctor in the UK to explore the profound lessons that death teaches us. Though death is the one certainty in life, it’s often surrounded by fear and silence. We will explore the deeply human and universal realities of dying—revealing the wisdom, love, and clarity that can emerge from facing mortality. Through these lessons, Jai Gopali invites us to confront our own fears, deepen our connections, and live with greater intention and grace.

Bio: Jai Gopali is a certified 500+ hour yoga teacher and bhakti practitioner. Having been raised in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, she has spent her life discovering and experiencing the practices of this beautiful tradition. In her desire to help others, she attended medical school at Imperial College London where she completed her medical degree and went onto practicing as a doctor. During this time, she realized that there was a limit to how much she could help people within the confines of the modern medical system and thus chose to find a path more aligned with her desire to teach others. She went onto training as a yoga teacher, where she fell in love with the practices of asana, meditation, pranayama and adored the yoga philosophy she studied. She is still continuing to learn the depths of yoga from her teachers in India, where she is currently studying Yoga Therapy. Now, her focus is on helping others heal through yoga and bringing together the community to experience the power of collective healing through connection.

Urban Devi is a monthly interactive women’s discussion circle that seeks to make spirituality accessible to women in the 21st century. Each session will focus on a theme based on topics that are of importance to women and will offer insight and practical applications from the practice of Bhakti Yoga.
